How to Select Survival Weapons

How to survive. Survival weapons.

The situation is extreme and for one reason or the other ,let's call it faith, you survived! Round one is in your favor, you are still alive! Alive an well however, your in the middle of a tropical, triple canopy jungle and it looks nothing like the travel brochure! Your luggage is gone, cell phone smashed, most of your clothing torn. The only plus right now is your shoes are still intact. No worries, not yet at least. Having once listened to a lecture or two and maybe read somewhere, how to stay calm in a survival situation. You now start implementing this process. You take stock in your surroundings. Try to formulate a plan , either stay at your present location or plan a move and start surviving.

Shelter , food , protection ; These will be the focus for the next few hours, days, weeks in the course of our survival. Each will interlock with the other. Each will need some sort of multipurpose tool. A weapon, one that will fill the need for self confidence in the ability to defend, prepare and procure food and at some degree assist in shelter preparation. Some of the underlying factors that will determine the type of weapon we will focus on are these; Are we still physically well, meaning no broken legs , fingers arms, shoulder. This would prevent any throwing or pulling or slinging type weapon usage. The environment and surroundings; If we cannot see the forest for the trees, there is no need to make a throwing type weapon. It would be lost instantly! Also what is available? If each tree is brittle ( swamp area) or hard as a rock, we will be using a lot of energy to procure the material. It is easy to make a bow and arrow in a built up area, fresh  and relaxed with at least one meal in us. Here you are traumatized, dehydrated and in sleep and food depravation. Not so easy.

We need to go back to the step in survival that refers to Become aware of your Surroundings. See if there are more earth bound animal movement then aerial. Is there a water source? Are there vegetation that might be eatable? Answers to these questions will direct the survivalist in a plan to creating an applicable weapon. Be it a short sharpened staff for stabbing and prodding, or creating a sling type weapon for knocking down airborne animals. It could be as easy as weaving vines into a web net for scooping fish or trapping small rodents.

Throughout the course of our main mission of survival, we will find the need for a cutting type weapon, for common name , we will call a knife. The first thing the survivalist will need to overcome is the vision of a common knife. Here in a survival type environment, it will be hard to recreate the famous Jim Bowie knife.  common sea shell with a coconut husk wrapped around it may be your best friend. Rocks can be splintered and wedged into pieces of wood, then wrapped tight with vines. The main usage of this device will be for cutting. Do not get frustrated  and spend allot of time trying to make the ultimate knife or weapon. Make several and keep them near.  Remember you can and will survive. Time is your best friend. Trial and error  will occupy your mind and keep you focus. Surviving is a state of mind.
